Kibale National Park – The Primate Capital of the World
Kibale National Park is Uganda’s premier destination for chimpanzee trekking and one of the most beautiful tropical rainforests in East Africa. Covering 795 square kilometers, the park is located in western Uganda near Fort Portal and forms a wildlife corridor with Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Kibale is best known for its high concentration of primates—home to 13 primate species, including over 1,500 chimpanzees, making it one of the best places in the world to observe them in the wild. Other primates include red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys.
