Mount Elgon National Park – The World’s Largest Volcanic Caldera

Mount Elgon National Park is a serene and diverse park located in eastern Uganda, near the border with Kenya. Covering 1,110 square kilometers, the park is centered around Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano that is one of Africa’s oldest and largest mountains. Standing at 4,321 meters, it was once Africa’s highest peak before the forces of erosion took their toll. The park offers an exceptional blend of landscapes, from lush forests and expansive moorlands to rugged volcanic terrains and deep craters. It is home to numerous waterfalls, caves, and calderas.
