5 days and 4 nights, Bujumbura, Kibira National Park, Source of the Nile

Visit Kibira National Park, the most popular park in Bwindi, a tropical natural forest to ponder. It boasts of antelopes, hares, buffalos, cynocephalus and tropical and wild crocodile. Detour to Lake Tanganyika for natural beauty, local fishing villages, and sandy beaches. Your trip ends with a visit to Ruvubu (time permitting) and the ‘Source’ of the Nile at Rutovu.

Day 1: Arrive Bujumbura

Arrive Bujumbura.

Meet and greet and transfer to your hotel.

Overnight at Roca Golf Hotel (B).

Day 2: Burera Mountain and Karera Falls

Drive eastwards to visit the Burera Explorers mountain and site of the “Source of the River Nile.“ Visit Karera Waterfalls, the largest Falls in central Africa – one of the natural wonders of Burundi. Canopy walk above the Falls and the Karera Forest.

Lunch in Karera at Le Perroquet (The Parrot bird – basic).

 

Optional walk around the Forest for some unusual plant and bird species.

Gentle drive back to Gitega.

 

Overnight at Matergo Hotel Gitega or Similar(B, L).

Day 3: Ruvubu Savannah Park and Rusiizi National Park

Breakfast. Drive to Ruvubu Savannah Park for game, such as buffalo, antelope, bushbuck, hippos in the lake and elephant.

[Time permitting, take a Canoe on the lake (Lac Aux Oiseaix) for birds, hippos, crocodiel and more water species.]

Early lunch.

Return to Bujumbura.

This afternoon we take a short drive to Rusiizi national park (20 minutes drive), a park in the city. Boat cruise to see hippos, crocodiles, birds especially the whistling ducks are evrywhere!, yet in other East african countries they are rare. On the boat cruise, you will see where Rusiizi River meets lake Tanganyika, this lake straddles Burundi, Tanyanzia Congo DRC and part of Zambia – making it the main attraction of the City: you will be ble to see another wonder of Burundi – a special water line that separates River Rusiizi to the north (brown waters) and Lake Tanganyika to the South (deep blue waters), in the same locus!

Day 4: Bururi for chimpanzees

After breakfast, visit Bururi for possible chimpanzee sighting (note: the chimpanzees here are not habituated).

Lunch in a Lodge nearby.

Guided nature walk in the forest for primates (monkeys), birds, small mammals.

Overnight at Roca Golf Hotel (B, L).

Day 5: Kibira National Park and Fly Out

After breakfast, Visit Kibira National Park for a nature walk in the forest for primates (monkeys), birds, small mammals, visit tea plantations in Kibira, time permitting for tea gardens, more monkey and bird visits to see the species that are endemic to Burundi. Return to Bujumbura and lunch.

Afternoon at leisure or visit the local crats market or and Lake Tanganyika.

Optional visit to a local general goods market, the craft centre and downtown Bujumbura. Transfer to airport and check-in in time for your flight.
